At this point I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised at continuing to encounter extraordinary fauna in this place but...

Even having already encountered several incredible species of lizard, this one gave us pause. Of course, that might be because we literally tripped over this one in the dark, concealed in the underbrush, as they appear to be primarily black with frills and markings highlighted in a brilliant cyan (which share the phosphorescent quality we’ve seen exhibited to varying degrees in all previously encountered lizards endemic to this ecosystem.) 

Several members of the team have taken to referring to this particular specimen as a “leap lizard” for reasons that should be self-explanatory, though we are heartened by the subject's willingness to be pet, particularly behind the frills, as yet more evidence of the potential affability of these creatures. More studies will be needed of course, but for now we’ll keep observing, and perhaps see if they like to play fetch.
